Arlington National CemetaryThe guard is changed every hour on the hour Oct. 1 to March 31 in an elaborate ritual. From April 1 through September 30, there are more than double the opportunities to view the change because another change is added on the half hour and the cemetery closing time moves from 5 to 7 p.m.
An impeccably uniformed relief commander appears on the plaza to announce the Changing of the Guard. Soon the new sentinel leaves the Quarters and unlocks the bolt of his or her M-14 rifle to signal to the relief commander to start the ceremony. The relief commander walks out to the Tomb and salutes, then faces the spectators and asks them to stand and stay silent during the ceremony.
The Dulles Air and Space Museum, officially named the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, is next to Dulles International Airport.
The museum opened in December 2003 and provides space for the Smithsonian to display the thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited at the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall.

First Lady’s Debut – Smithsonian American History Museum
First Lady Michelle Obama has formally presented her famed 2009 inaugural ball gown to the Smithsonian’s First Ladies Collection at the National Museum of American History. The gown is displayed in the center of A First Lady’s Debut, a new gallery addition to the museum’s popular exhibition, The First Ladies at the Smithsonian.
The Newseum's popular exhibit "First Dogs: American Presidents and Their Pets," showcases some of the top dogs who have resided at the nation's most prestigious address. On display are images of dogs belonging to 23 presidents, including the newest addition: Bo — a gift to the Obamas from the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
